What we do

Ragtag is changing the way technologists contribute to causes and organizations they care about.

Building a community

Ragtag is building the future of tech volunteerism. Progressive technologists are eager to jump in and make the change they want to see in the world. At Ragtag, we help them do it responsibly, by helping them understand the work of organizers on the ground, around the country, who have been working in their communities for decades.

The Ragtag community values learning about progressive organizing, past and present, and how technology fits into this intricate landscape. We have trainings and webinars for our volunteers, covering the basics of grassroots organizing, campaigns and organizing tech, and opportunities for volunteers to build their skills by learning from community members.

Products and Projects

Ragtag organizes and manages tech volunteers to build products and tech projects that truly amplify the work of progressive groups — and which they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. Our projects range from custom websites for non-profits, to data integration tools, to machine-learning-driven data analysis, to bespoke websites for down-ticket candidates, to crucial GOTV apps used by campaigns across the country.

Visit our project gallery for a look at some of the projects we’re most proud of. If you’d like to learn more about partnering with Ragtag on a project, you can read about our evaluation process, or you can view our partner gallery.

Tech education and training

Ragtag organizes tech volunteers to provide tech support, education, and training to activists around the country. We run a full tech helpdesk and self-service knowledge-base at RagtagHelpdesk.org. We offer a series of digital security trainings geared towards folks working on grassroots organizing campaigns as volunteers or staff.

The volunteers and staff at Ragtag also provide one-on-one consultations with organizations about what tech tools can make the most difference in their work.
